Mexico's largest savings and loan cooperative is assessing entry to the capital, where it currently has no physical branches.
Caja Popular Mexicana, the largest savings and loan cooperative in Mexico, is evaluating potential expansion into Mexico City, the institution confirmed during its 75th anniversary announcements.
As of September 2026, the cooperative operates 504 branches across 28 Mexican states, with 4.07 million registered members. It holds approximately 50% of all members in the national cooperative savings and loan sector. It reported assets exceeding 133,750 million pesos and a credit portfolio of over 75,000 million pesos this year.
The cooperative has no existing physical branches in Mexico City. Representatives have confirmed a single location would be insufficient to serve the capital, requiring multiple openings. A spokesperson stated entry to the city is not simple due to its size.
