Monterrey officials held a civic ceremony on Sunday morning at the Obelisco to commemorate the 430th anniversary of the city's founding.

Captain Diego de Montemayor, accompanied by 12 families, founded the Ciudad Metropolitana de Nuestra Señora de Monterrey on September 20, 1596. The city was then known as the Metropolitan City of Our Lady of Monterrey.
