President Claudia Sheinbaum endorsed Rubén Rocha Moya's indefinite leave from the Sinaloa governorship, saying the decision was the best option for the state.

The endorsement came after Rocha Moya had briefly returned to his duties as governor. Publimetro reports that the return drew criticism from fellow Morena governors, the opposition and the head of the executive branch itself. El Heraldo de México reports that Morena, the ruling party, formally distanced itself from that return.

Aristegui Noticias also confirmed Sheinbaum's position, reporting that she described the request for indefinite leave as the right move for Sinaloa. The read here is that the episode left Rocha Moya without support from any quarter - his own party, the opposition and the presidency all broke with him over the return - which appears to have made the leave the only viable path forward.
